What is rigid box packaging?
Rigid boxes (also called set-up boxes) are premium, high-end packaging made from thick, dense greyboard covered in decorative paper, fabric, or other materials. Unlike folding cartons, rigid boxes do not fold flat β they retain their shape permanently.
You'll recognise rigid boxes immediately β they're the boxes used for:
- Premium chocolates and confectionery
- High-end cosmetics and fragrance
- Jewellery and watches
- Electronics (think Apple's iPhone box)
- Luxury gifts and hampers
- Substantial weight and feel β signals quality to the customer
- Board thickness β typically 1.5mmβ3mm greyboard
- Magnetic closures, ribbon pulls, satin lining β popular premium finishes
- Reusable β customers often keep and reuse luxury rigid boxes
