Drip-off varnish (also called *hybrid effect* or *reticulation*) is a sophisticated press finishing technique that creates dramatic visual and tactile contrast between high-gloss and matte-textured areas in a single press pass.
### How Drip-Off Works:
1. An oil-based matte effect coating is applied selectively to background areas via a standard offset printing plate.
2. In the very next coating unit, a full-surface flood UV gloss varnish is applied over the entire sheet.
3. Where the gloss varnish touches the wet matte coating, it repels ("drips off") and beads up, forming a rough, tactile orange-peel matte texture.
4. Where no matte coating was applied, the UV varnish settles as a glass-smooth mirror gloss!
